LONG BEACH (CNS) - A 49-year-old woman driving an SUV was killed when a 20-year-old man driving a pickup truck tried to speed through an intersection as the stoplight turned red, police said today.

The pickup driver -- a Long Beach man -- was going east on Del Amo Boulevard in a 2018 Nissan Titan and broadsided a 2003 GMC Yukon that was traveling north on Orange Avenue, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

The woman, who was wearing her seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the lone occupant inside the SUV.

Four of the five occupants in the pickup truck were also wearing seatbelts and suffered a variety of injuries, police said. The occupants were the driver, two men and two teenage males.

Police were dispatched to the crash scene at Del Amo Boulevard and Orange Avenue at 10:25 p.m. Friday.

``Both drivers had a valid driver's license,'' police said. ``While at the hospital, the driver of the Nissan provided a blood sample to determine if he was driving impaired. The investigation remains ongoing.''

Long Beach asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at 562-570-7110.
