Teacher's Aide Arrested, Charged with Sexual Abuse

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A 27-year-old teacher's aide at an elementary school in North Hollywood was behind bars today in lieu of $850,000 bail, charged with the sexual abuse of at least six victims ages 10 and 11.

Allegations of inappropriate behavior were made May 16 against the aide at Oxnard Elementary School at 10912 Oxnard St., and the investigation determined there were at least six victims, according to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department.

The investigation led members of the LAPD's Sexually Exploited Child Unit to arrest Lino Cabrera, police said. Police did not say when and where Cabrera was taken into custody.

The Los Angeles District Attorney's office charged Cabrera Monday with one count of sexual abuse on a child and five counts of lewd or lascivious acts upon a child.

Anyone with information about this investigation was asked to call the LAPD's Sexually Exploited Child Unit at 213-486-0580.

“The Los Angeles Police Department notified Los Angeles Unified on Monday of the arrest of teacher's assistant Lino Cabrera on allegations of committing a lewd act on a child,” a Los Angeles Unified School District spokeswoman said today.

“The alleged misconduct involves students at Oxnard Street Elementary School. The employee was removed from the school in May, when the initial allegation was made, and parents were notified at that time. The safety and well-being of our students remains our top priority.

“While recognizing that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, these allegations are extremely upsetting, and we take them very seriously. We will remain vigilant in protecting our students from those who would do them harm. We expect every person in Los Angeles Unified to fulfill their commitment to keep our students and schools safe.”
