BELLFLOWER (CNS) - A baby girl found dead in a car seat behind a Bellflower mortuary was identified today as the daughter of a Northern California man who suffers from depression and remains missing.
The child was found dead in a car seat partially covered by a blanket about 10:35 a.m. Monday behind the mortuary in the 10300 block of Alondra Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
She was identified by the Los Angeles County coroner's office as 8- month-old Alexia Rose Echeverria. An autopsy was pending, so there was no immediate word on how the child died.
The baby was the daughter of 30-year-old Northern California resident Alexander Echeverria, who remains missing but was recently spotted in the Bellflower area, Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Trina Schrader said.
“We believe the death occurred in Sacramento County,” Schrader said, adding that all other information about the case would be released by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
A message left with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department was not immediately returned.
Earlier, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department issued a statement indicating that Alexander Echeverria was last seen with his 8-month- old daughter about 10:30 p.m. Friday driving in Bellflower in a gray 2014 Volkswagen Jetta, with California license number 7FFT866.
The Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said Echeverria suffers from depression and his family had been concerned about his safety and the welfare of the child.
Officials circulated a photo of Echeverria, described as Hispanic, 5 feet 6, about 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts was asked to call the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department at 916-874-5021, or 911.
