LOS ANGELES (CNS) - “Aladdin” blew away the competition at the box office, taking in $86.1 million in its debut weekend at theaters in the United States and Canada, according to industry estimates released today.
Disney's live-action adaptation of its animated 1992 film -- based on a tale from “One Thousand and One Arabian Nights” -- beat out last week's leading film, “John Wick: Chapter 3,” which made $24.3 million for second place.
“Avengers: Endgame” was third with another $16.8 million, bringing its five-week domestic box office total to $798 million.
“Pokemon Detective Pikachu” was fourth, making $13.3 million Friday through today, followed by “Brightburn” with $7.5 million.
Rounding out the top 10 releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “Booksmart” ($6.5 million), “A Dog's Journey” ($4 million), “The Hustle” ($3.8 million), “The Intruder” ($2.2 million) and “Long Shot” ($1.5 million).
