San Clemente officials will host a City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 21. There, they say they will finally address the homeless and housing emergency going on in the city.
Increasing numbers of homeless people at North Beach, rat infestations, and lack of leadership from city officials have all caused fear and anger in the residents of San Clemente. The city says they've been working on solutions, but we won't know any details until the meeting.
Keep in mind, the last city meeting where residents planned to voice their concerns ended up being canceled at the last minute.
“I am hopeful the county of Orange will take leadership on homelessness in the region,” Councilman Dan Bane said. “They have already seen success in funding the regional shelter solutions in north and central Orange County and we believe that South Orange County deserves a comparable solution.”
The Emergency Shelter Coalition's Ed O'Connor said he wants to help find a solution for the city, and will share his group's plan with the council on Tuesday.
