Dog's Smell Helping to Develop Tech for Cancer Detection

As if there wasn't a million reasons that make dogs man's best friend, we can add another!

Researchers are using the animal's incredible sense of smell to help detect cancer in its earliest stages.

The idea isn't necessarily to have cancer sniffing dogs, but for scientists to use them to develop a sort of electronic nose that will.

Executive Director of PennVet Working Dog Center, Dr. Cindy Otto, explains:

"My dream is that dogs confirm that the electronic nose is working and we get that out. If we can help recognize this cancer early, we will save lives. We just need to get the machines as good as the dogs."
