LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A 5-year-old girl was among four people hospitalized this morning with injuries suffered in a drive-by shooting at a park in South Los Angeles.
Gunfire was reported about 8 p.m. Tuesday near 47th Street and Budlong Avenue in the Vermont Square area, according to Officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.
At least 10 shots were fired, the LAPD said.
The child sustained a gunshot wound to the back.
She and the other victims were conscious and breathing when taken to a hospital, Madison said.
One victim was reported in critical condition. The girl and the two other victims were in fair condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A detailed description of any suspects was not immediately available. The suspect vehicle was described only as a dark sedan or SUV, LAPD Capt. John Shah said.
Detectives investigated the possibility the shooting was gang-related.
The LAPD's 77th Street Division tweeted that some of its officers will be attending a peace vigil Wednesday at Vermont Square Park, scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
