Doris Day Dies At Age 97

Actress Doris Day has passed away at the age of 97. She started her career as a singer before turning to acting and starring in the hit 1956 flick Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be). News of her death came in the form of a statement from the Doris Day Animal Foundation that revealed she died on Monday at her home in Carmel Valley, California. It described the Hollywood legend's health as having been "excellent" for her age until recently, when she contracted a "serious case of pneumonia."

Day, who was born Mary Ann Von Kappelhoff in 1922, is also known for her roles in That Touch of Mink and in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much. She never won an Academy Award but did get nominated for 1960's Pillow Talk. In 2004 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and in 2008 she was given a lifetime achievement Grammy. Her last release was a compilation album called My Heart in 2011. It went to number one in the UK.

Day was surrounded by a few close friends when she passed away.
