Actress Peggy Lipton has passed away. The 'Twin Peaks' and 'Mod Squad' star was 72-years-old.
The news of Lipton's death was confirmed in a statement released by her two daughters, Kidada and Rashida Jones.
"We are heartbroken that our beloved mother passed away from cancer today," the statement said. "She made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side. We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her."
"We can't put all of our feelings into words right now but we will say: Peggy was, and will always be our beacon of light, both in this world and beyond. She will always be a part of us."
The statement also asked for privacy during this difficult time for the family.
Lipton shot to fame playing Julie Barnes, one of three "hippie cops" in the 1960s counter-culture hit, "The Mod Squad" with Michael Cole and Clarence Williams III, between 1968-1973. She received an Emmy nomination in 1971 for her performance. In the 1990s, she also played the role of Norma Jennings on 'Twin Peaks' and returned to the role for the 2017 revival of the show.
In 1974, Lipton married music producer Quincy Jones and had two daughters, Kidada and Rashida, with him. The couple divorced in 1989.
