Elementary School Teacher Arrested On Child Pornography Charges

An elementary school teacher from North Carolina was arrested on child pornography charges following a month-long investigation. In April, after receiving an anonymous tip, investigators searched the home of Stefan Winfried Anders, who was a fifth-grade teacher at New Hope Elementary School in Chapel Hill. They seized electronic devices along with six computers, including three that belonged to the school district.

After news of the raid broke, Anders was suspended by the school and later resigned.

Authorities began searching the electronic devices and found numerous images of child pornography, though officials said that none of the pictures depicted children from the school. He was taken into custody and charged with 15 felony counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He was released on a written promise to appear in court to face the charges.

"Reviewing the files stored on these devices is incredibly time-consuming," lead investigator Ashley Woodlief said. "We still have more digital material to process, but at this point, we determined Mr. Anders possessed multiple photographs, the content of which is in violation of the laws of North Carolina."
