Some residents of Laguna Beach have too much time on their hands.
The Laguna Beach Police Department vehicles recently underwent some changes, proudly displaying an american flag design in the lettering.
However, critics are saying the stars-and stripes graphic is too "aggressive."
The decision to switch up the design was unanimously approved by the city council in February, but after the backlash, a vote will be held Tuesday to deiced whether to keep the new patriotic design or revert back to the original.
Carrie Woodburn, local Laguna Beach artist, told a city council meeting she was taken aback by the "boldness of the design." “We have such an amazing community of artists here, and I thought the aesthetic didn’t really represent our community,” Woodburn said. “It feels very aggressive.”
Cops who have driven the vehicles with the new designs have another story.
Laguna Beach Police Cpl. Ryan Hotchkiss said he has received nothing but positive feedback. “Every time I came to a stop sign, every time I came to a red light, somebody is telling me the car looks great,” Hotchkiss said at a city council meeting in March. “Every one of our members that drives the car loves it, and we look forward to keeping them the way they are.”
