Teen Jumps From Seventh Floor, Lands on Man at Americana Mall

Update: The 17-year old boy who fatally jumped from The Americana at Brand shopping center in Glendale was a student at an Eagle Rock school and had Autism, family and friends say. Students at at Eagle Rock Junior/Senior High School were notified Wednesday of the tragic incident, ABC7 reports.

"It is with great sadness that we inform you that we were notified of the death of one of our students," said Principal Mylene Keipp in a message to students.

GLENDALE (CNS) - A 17-year-old boy from Los Angeles suffered fatal injuries when he jumped from a seventh-floor structure at The Americana at Brand shopping center in Glendale, landing on a man who was with two young children, authorities said today.

The teen and the man were taken to a hospital about 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, where the boy who jumped was pronounced dead about 5:30 p.m., according to Tahnee Lightfoot of the Glendale Police Department.

The 49-year-old man who was on the ground sustained non-life- threatening injuries, she said.

Neither child was injured.

Police did not immediately say if they regard the boy's jump as a suicide attempt.
