Four Hurt After Stolen Truck Pursuit in Van Nuys

Four people were injured after a stolen pickup truck being chased by the Los Angeles Police Department, collided with another vehicle in a Van Nuys intersection.

Paramedics were sent to Vanowen Street and Balboa Boulevard just after 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. Police began chasing after the truck a few minutes earlier at Vanowen Street and Owensmouth Avenue.

Police say the pickup was stolen from Marina del Rey and officers discovered a loaded gun inside the vehicle.

Two people trapped in separate vehicles were later freed by firefighters.

Police initially said one person was killed by the crash, but retracted that, saying the woman stopped breathing at the scene, but was revived and is currently going through surgery.

Witnesses told NBC LA that the pickup driver was speeding on the street with officers in pursuit when it clipped another car, setting off a chain-reaction crash involving at least five other vehicles.
