POMONA (CNS) - A quick-thinking officer spotted a choking infant in the arms of her parents at their Pomona home, immediately took the child and dislodged an item from the 1-year-old girl's throat, police said today.
The officer was dispatched about 8 p.m. Saturday to the 1100 block of West Holt, in response to a “hysterical father regarding his 1-year-old child choking and not breathing,” the Pomona Police Department said.
Officer Jeremy Hunt was seconds away, police said, and when he arrived he saw the family and several nearby residents in front of a home, with the mother and father holding the infant in their arms.
Hunt immediately grabbed the child, turned her on her stomach and administered several back strikes. The undisclosed item was dislodged from the girl's throat allowing her to regain her breath.
Arriving paramedics took her to an area hospital, where she was listed in good condition, police said.
