Person of Interest Detained in East Hollywood Metro Station Rape

Police say a person of interest in the rape of a woman at an East Hollywood Metro station earlier this month has been detained.

The man who was detained has not yet been identified by police and is not currently considered a suspect, a police department spokesperson said.

Authorities released a surveillance photos and sketch of a man who is being sought in connection with the assault on March 14. The man allegedly raped, strangled, and punched a woman while in a secluded emergency stairwell at the Metro Red Lin Vermont/Sunset Station on North Vermont Ave.

The suspect, who is known to police, reportedly frequents the Metro stations from Compton to Santa Monica and is described as a black man with brown eyes, between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, between 165 and 180 pounds, with a shaved head, an earring on his right ear and a 2- to 3-inch scar on his left forearm. He wore all dark clothing during the attack, police said.
