Report: Video Shows Deputy Trying to Break Into Woman's Home

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy reinstated after being fired due to alleged domestic abuse is seen on newly released video attempting to break into a woman’s home.

The video is among records that county officials used to show that Deputy Caren Carl Mandoyan lied to investigators by claiming he never tried to break into the home.

The Los Angeles Times reports Wednesday that Mandoyan is seen crouched, wedging a tool in a door frame to pop it loose.

Greg Smith, Mandoyan’s attorney, said his client lived with the woman and was trying to get back inside after he was locked out without keys. Smith said Mandoyan never assaulted the woman.

County leaders sought an injunction against Sheriff Alex Villanueva to reverse his reinstatement of Mandoyan. The deputy was fired in 2016 by former Sheriff Jim McDonnell.
