SAN MARINO (CNS) - San Marino High School was closed for a time today in response to an anonymous tip about an alleged threat against a specific student and possibly others, and a juvenile suspect was arrested.
The tip was received early Monday morning, according to the San Marino Police Department. Information was not immediately released on the suspect's age or gender, or whether the suspect is a student.
After the initial investigation began, the school was placed on lockdown, and shortly after 9 a.m., police had announced that classes had been canceled for the day.
However, about an hour later, police announced the arrest and the school released a statement saying students should return to campus at 11:10 a.m.
“Early this morning, San Marino High School Principal Issaic Gates received a call from San Marino Police Department informing him of a specific violent threat against a named SMHS student and possibly his friends,” according to a statement on the school's website.
“SMPD Chief John Incontro communicated with Interim Superintendent Loren Kleinrock and other district administrators and determined that the threat was credible enough to be investigated. After investigation, it was determined that there is no existing threat. One subject was taken into custody for criminal threats ... No other subjects or suspects are involved. The SMPD has determined that it is safe for school to resume,” according to the school.
