BELLFLOWER (CNS) - A man in a suspected stolen pickup truck led California Highway Patrol officers on a two-hour pursuit that began in Hawthorne and traveled across several Southland freeways before it ended this morning in Bellflower when the man surrendered after a short standoff.
Deputies from the South Los Angeles station on patrol in Hawthorne received a LoJack hit on a reported stolen 2015 Toyota Tacoma at 10 p.m. Friday and attempted to pull the driver over, but he fled the area and entered the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies turned the pursuit over to the CHP, which followed the man as he traveled northbound on the San Diego Freeway, then eastbound on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, south on the Long Beach (710) Freeway to the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway to the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway to the Garden Grove (22) Freeway, where he exited in Long Beach.
He proceeded westbound on Pacific Coast Highway, then turned southbound on the Long Beach Freeway, exiting at Seventh Street, racing eastbound with the truck's lights turned off, spinning out at Seventh Street and Atlantic Avenue. He quickly regained control and proceeded westbound on Seventh Street, before turning northbound on Long Beach Boulevard and using city streets to get back to the eastbound Artesia (91) Freeway.
The suspect then traveled eastbound on the Artesia Freeway at speeds over 100 mph, transitioned to the westbound Artesia Freeway in Cerritos and proceeded westbound to the northbound Long Beach Freeway, where he exited to westbound Alondra Boulevard, then south on Vermont Avenue and back to the eastbound Artesia Freeway in Carson.
The driver then exited the Artesia Freeway at Bellflower Boulevard in Bellflower and proceeded along city streets until pulling into a neighborhood off Potter Street, coming to a stop in the 10000 block of Potter Street near Eastbrook Avenue.
After a short standoff, the suspect drove a short distance to the intersection of Potter Street and Cabell Avenue, where officers cautiously approached the truck and threw a spike strip under the vehicle, near the rear tires.
Officers fired non-lethal rounds at the truck, ABC7 reported. The driver surrendered at 12:05 a.m.
The truck was stolen out of Orange County, KCAL9 reported.
The name and age of the suspect was not disclosed.
No accidents or injuries were reported.
