Woman Killed, Two Children Injured in Hit-And-Run Near School in La Mirada

LA MIRADA (CNS) - Authorities searched today for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a woman and injured two of her grandchildren near an elementary school in La Mirada.

The pedestrians were struck about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday near Escalona Elementary School in the 14800 block of Escalona Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, the sheriff's department reported.

The children, a boy and a girl, were also taken to a hospital, authorities said.

``These kids are going to be devastated, her grandkids, they seen it,'' Richard Montoya, a parent of children who attend the same school as the victims, told NBC4. ``Please turn yourself in.''

Authorities did not immediately release the woman's name.

Escalona Road was closed between Ashgrove Drive and Oakbury Drive following the crash.

The vehicle, which was recorded on surveillance video, was described as a 2015-2017 dark gray four-door Toyota Camry that sustained damage to its front passenger-side headlight area.

Anyone with information that could help investigators track down the male driver to call the sheriff's Norwalk Station at (562) 863-8711.
