Police in Florida arrested a couple last Wednesday after finding their 5-month-old son starving to death.
"I've never seen a child to this level," detective Lauren Watson told WFTV9, “this close to possible death.”
Robert Buskey and Julia French later told police that they were both vegan, and had switched their baby from the doctor-recommended formula, to a formula made from potatoes and "consistent with their vegan lifestyle."
According to police, the baby had gained less than a pound in those 5 months, and was recovered with sunken eyes and his bones showing.
The couple will both face felony charges of child neglect.
