CERRITOS (CNS) - A transient man was fatally stabbed today near a homeless encampment in a commercial area in Cerritos.
Deputies responded about 2:55 p.m. to an abandoned railway between commercial buildings near the 16200 block of Shoemaker Avenue to investigate a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
``It appears the victim was a transient and lived nearby in a homeless encampment,'' according to sheriff's department statement.
No suspect description was available and no weapon has been recovered, officials said.
