Instagram Famous Wide-Neck Criminal Back in Jail After Judge Revokes Bond

Man whose mugshot went viral back in jail

A man who became famous on Instagram thanks to his wide-necked mugshot is back in jail, authorities said Wednesday.

The wide-necked Pensacola man was booked back in to Escambia County Jail Tuesday night. According to a post from McDowell's management team on Facebook, a judge revoked his bond from the original charges, but it's unclear why that happened.

"Tonight, Charles AKA Wideneck was arrested in his hometown of Pensacola. He didn’t get arrested on any new charges, the judge revoked his bond from his original charges. Now he has to sit in jail until his case is over with. He appreciates all the love and support from everyone in the past 2 months. Charles’ life has changed for the better for himself and his family. When all this is over with this last case, you have his word that’ll he’ll never go back to jail again!" the caption read.

McDowell was arrested in November by the Escambia County Sheriff's office on drug charges and fleeing police. His mugshot went viral online after more than 260,000 people shared the image because of the inmate's particularly wide neck. McDowell took to social media after his release to join in on the "wideneck" jokes, adding a few memes of his own.

McDowell has gained more than 1.3 million followers on Instagram since his mugshot initially went viral in November. He's leveraged his online fame to appear in the celebrity pro-bowl showdown in Orlando last Saturday, and has also released a rap song with another person famous for their long-neck on Instagram.

Before he was known for his mugshot, McDowell was convicted on a slew of charges in Florida, including a conviction for grand theft auto in 2005. He's due back in court on Feb. 21.
