Thousands Show Up For Air Force Veteran's Funeral

Thousands of people showed up at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery for the funeral of Air Force veteran Joseph Walker after the funeral home was worried that nobody would attend. Last week, the workers made an appeal on Facebook after they were unable to get touch with Walker's family.

"We have the distinct honor to provide a full military burial for unaccompanied United States Air Force veteran Joseph Walker," the post read. "We do not leave veterans behind us.”

People from all over the country answered the call, with between 5,000 and 6,000 cars lined up for miles outside of the cemetery waiting to pay their respects. While not much is known about Walker's military service, he joined the Air Force at 18 and served during the Vietnam War, from September 10, 1964, to September 9, 1968.

The folded American flag was given to a representative from the Veterans Land Board and will be held for 90 days. If nobody from Walker's family claims the flag within 90 days it will be flown from the flagpole at the cemetery.
