Recently Released Inmate Arrested For Attempted Rape at Knifepoint

(Flavio Hernandez: Fontana Police Department)

A recently released violent inmate was arrested Tuesday after police say he attempted to rape a young woman at knifepoint.

Flavio Hernandez, 20, who originally fled the scene in the 16000 block of Pennard Lane, was caught by authorities after his county jail release paperwork was found at the scene of the assault. He was arrested in Muscoy, Tuesday afternoon, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s booking records.

Fontana police received a call from the victim around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, saying she awoke to find a man in her bedroom trying to sexually assault her. According to a police statement, she said he was also armed with a knife during the attack.

Police said Hernandez entered the home and the victim's bedroom twice. The first time he took several items and placed them in an area where he could get them later.

“He then went back to the residence with the intent to sexually attack the female victim,” the news release said.

Hernandez was booked into West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of burglary with the intent to commit rape. He is being held without bail.

Hernandez pleaded no contest to attempted burglary in a December case and records show he was sentenced to 90 days in county jail. He was released Jan. 14 after serving 40 days.
