Chargers Add Second Kicker to Roster

COSTA MESA (CNS) - The Los Angeles Chargers signed kicker Nick Rose today for kickoffs in Sunday's playoff game at New England, coach Anthony Lynn said.

“He has a strong kickoff leg,” coach Anthony Lynn said after Friday's practice at the Hoag Practice Facility in Costa Mesa. “That's what we're looking at (for him).

“Our coverage units, they've been outstanding, but they cover kicks every single week. The guy that we're facing, (Patriots returner Cordarrelle) Patterson, I think he's one of the best in the business. If we can kick the ball in the end zone a little bit, I think that might help."

Rose spent the preseason with the Houston Texans, but was released before the start of the regular season.

Rose had been in training camp with the San Antonio Commanders of the Alliance of American Football this month.

The former Texas standout made his NFL debut with the Washington Redskins on Oct. 23, 2017, making 10 of 11 field goal attempts and 18 of 20 extra points in eight games. He was waived by the Redskins Dec. 16, 2017 after they activated Dustin Hopkins off injured reserve and claimed by the Chargers two days later.

Rose was the Chargers kicker the final two games of the 2017 season, making one of three field goal attempts and five of six extra points.

The Chargers cut running back Troymaine Pope to make room on their roster for Rose.
