Are you a helicopter parent?
Don't feel bad if you are. Honestly, it seems like a thing that you could very easily become on accident.
Is it really so bad to want to protect your kids? No, it isn't.
However, studies over the years have shown that children of helicopter parents are more likely to develop anxiety disorders, and the like, as they grow up due to a lack of coping abilities.
Millennials are very aware of these studies, and according to Star Tribune, they are making a concentrated effort to avoid becoming a helicopter parent.
Austyn Rask, a generational analyst at Wayzata-based Bridgeworks, said they're whole new type of aircraft.
"The analogy we hear is that today’s parents are jet fighter parents. They keep their distance, swoop in for emergencies, then fly out.”
Justin Worsham of The Dad Podcast absolutely loves this.
"This is just another example of the pendulum swinging back. Millennials are aware of the impact that helicopter parenting had on their generation, and now they are making sure that they don't repeat those mistakes."
