EAST LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man was killed this morning in a shooting in East Los Angeles, and five suspects were arrested following a car chase that led to Downey, authorities said.
Deputies responded about 12:30 a.m. to the 4300 block of Whittier Boulevard and found the wounded man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Deputy Dangelo Robinson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of his relatives.
“Information was obtained that the suspect vehicle was possibly a green sedan,” sheriff's Deputy De Angelo Robinson said.
“Shortly thereafter, another shooting occurred near McBride (Avenue) and Telegraph (Road) in East Los Angeles,” Robinson said. “The suspect vehicle (was) a green sedan.”
No one was injured in that shooting.
“About 40 minutes later, deputies observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop,” Robinson said. “The vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated.”
The chase led onto the southbound Santa Ana (5) freeway, and along the way, the suspects threw a firearm out of the car near the Washington Boulevard exit, Robinson said.
“The pursuit continued, and (the car) exited at Garfield Avenue, where the vehicle struck a median and blew out a tire,” Robinson said..
The car went back onto the southbound 5 Freeway, exited on Paramount Boulevard in Downey, and stopped in the 9200 block of Samoline Avenue, where the five occupants were arrested, Robinson said.
Among them were two females and three males. Two of the suspects are juveniles. No names were released.
