Man Sentenced to Nine Years for In-Flight Sexual Assault

A 35-year-old Detroit man was sentenced to nine years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman aboard a flight from Las Vegas.

Prosecutors say the incident occurred January 3rd on a Spirit Airlines overnight flight while the victim was asleep.

Prabhu Ramamoorthy, who was seated next to the woman, is accused of unbuttoning her top, unzipping her pants and fondling her.

As if this wasn't horrible enough, Ramamoorthy's wife was sitting next to him during the assault.

U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider says in a statement released following the sentencing:

"Everyone has the right to be secure and safe when they travel on airplanes...We will not tolerate the behavior of anyone who takes advantage of victims who are in a vulnerable position. We appreciate the victim in this case for her courage to speak out."
