SANTA ANA (CNS) - Orange County Superior Court officials warned residents today to beware of a rash of scams attempting to steal personal information. Officials have seen an increase in reports of scammers calling residents to claim they face prosecution for failing to report for jury service and need to provide confidential information such as a Social Security number.
The scam is an attempt at identity theft. Court authorities never call anyone demanding personal information such as Social Security or credit card numbers, a court spokesman noted.
Anyone receiving such a call is encouraged to hang up and call police.
