Small Rocks Tumble onto Mountain Highway During Rain

BANNING (CNS) - Downpours in the Banning Pass triggered a minor rockslide today along state Route 243, but the highway was not shut down, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The obstruction was reported by a Caltrans crew about 11:15 a.m., just north of Mt. Edna Road, roughly 10 miles south of Banning, according to the CHP.

The crew swept the rocks out of lanes, which remained open.

Crews were traveling up and down the mountain highway, looking for potential trouble spots, as wet weather moved through the region.
