Man Sentenced to 240 Years to Life in Prison for Raping German Tourist

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - One of two men convicted of raping a German tourist in Hollywood in 2016 was sentenced today to 240 years to life in state prison. 

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Kathleen Kennedy imposed the sentence on Kenneth Mack, 29, who was found guilty in July of two counts of forcible rape in concert involving the Dec. 5, 2016, attack on the tourist, along with an unrelated rape and robbery during a separate attack July 31, 2016. 

Mack -- who had two prior convictions for carjacking -- was also convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and second-degree robbery for separate crimes involving two other victims in November 2016.Co-defendant Otis Barway, 25, was found guilty of one count of forcible rape in concert involving the tourist, along with a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from a November 2016 attack. The two men met the German woman in the early morning hours of Dec. 5, 2016, and lured her to an isolated rooftop, according to Deputy District Attorney Paul Thompson. 

Mack knocked the woman to the ground and the two men raped her, according to prosecutor, who said both defendants were subsequently identified through DNA evidence.Barway was sentenced in July to 9 1/2 years in state prison.
