Orange County voters showed their support for Supervisor Todd Spitzer by ousting longtime District Attorney Tony Rackauckas.
As of Wednesday morning, Spitzer led Rackauckas by more than 31,000 votes.
Rackauckas, who has held the position for more than two decades, was in a face-off with Spitzer throughout the lead up to the election. Spitzer worked as a prosecutor under Rackauckas for a year but was fired in 2010.
The Orange County District Attorney's office handles more than 60,000 cases a year.
Before Tuesday's election, Spitzer pledged to partner with nonprofits like the American Civil Liberties Union to help reform the district attorney's office.
