Two Killed When Minivan Slams Into Stopped Big Rig on Golden State Freeway

SANTA CLARITA (CNS) - Two people were killed tonight when a minivan slammed into a stopped big rig on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Santa Clarita, setting both vehicles on fire. The crash was reported about 7:30 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near Calgrove Boulevard according to the California Highway Patrol. 

The minivan and the rear of the big rig caught fire and two people in the minivan died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The big rig driver was not injured, a fire department dispatch supervisor said. 

All northbound lanes but one in the vicinity of the collision were closed and a SigAlert was issued just before 8 p.m., the CHP reported.
