Possible Jumper Dressed as the Joker Prompts 170 Freeway Closure

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - A man wearing what appeared to be a Joker costume crawled atop a fence on a Hollywood (170) Freeway overpass in the North Hollywood area today, sparking a major traffic jam as authorities closed the southbound roadway while they worked to coax him down.

Police and fire crews responded shortly after 9 a.m. to the Whitsett Avenue overpass of the 170 Freeway on a report of a possible jumper.

When they arrived, they found a man dressed at Batman's arch-nemesis, wearing a bright purple jumpsuit with a long green wig or blanket over his head, perched atop a fence on the overpass.

Authorities initially shut down four lanes of the southbound freeway, but later shut down all southbound lanes starting at the Golden State (5) Freeway. By late morning, it appeared that one lane had been reopened.
