Dodgers To Face Brewers in Game 3 of NLCS at Dodger Stadium

rookie Walker Buehler to start against Brewers

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The National League Championship Series shifts to Dodger Stadium today with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers tied at one game each.

Rookie Walker Buehler will pitch for the Dodgers, facing fellow right-hander Jhoulys Chacin.

In his most recent appearance, Buehler received a no decision in the Dodgers 6-5 loss to the Atlanta Braves in Game 3 of their National League Division Series Oct. 7, allowing five runs and two hits in five innings, striking out seven and walking three.

In his only appearance against Milwaukee, Buehler allowed one run and five hits in seven innings, striking out seven and not walking a batter in a 1- 0 loss at Dodger Stadium July 31.

Buehler was 8-5 with a 2.62 ERA during the regular season. He pitched seven or more innings in six of his 23 starts.

When Chacin last pitched at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers scored 21 runs, the most by any team in the history of the stadium which opened in 1962.

Chacin was the starting pitcher, allowing nine runs, eight earned, and five hits, including three home runs, in 4 1/3 innings, walking four and striking out three in the 21-5 loss, the most runs allowed by the Brewers in their 50-season history.

Chacin was the winning pitcher in Game 2 of the Brewers NLDS, allowing three hits, striking out three and walking three in a 4-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies Oct. 5.

Chacin was 15-8 with a 3.50 ERA in the regular season. His 15 victories were tied for sixth in the NL. Milwaukee was 23-12 in his MLB-leading 35 starts, the most of his career. He pitched seven or more innings four times.

“Jhoulys has been as much as we could ever hope for when we signed him this winter,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. “He was a player ... I know some members of our front office have liked for a long time and followed closely for a long time.

“He's just been a very stabilizing presence for us. He's taken the ball every fifth day, so to speak, and delivered good results. During the course of 162 games you need that. As the season's gone on, he's just pitched wonderfully, and especially in some really big games he's pitched wonderfully.”

Retired Dodger outfielder Andre Ethier will throw the ceremonial first pitch. Gospel singer Keith Williams Jr. will sing the national anthem, just as he did before Game 1 of the NLDS, which the Dodgers won 6-0.

The Dodgers tied the best-of-seven series with a 4-3 victory Saturday at Milwaukee's Miller Park, with Justin Turner's two-run homer in the eighth inning capping a comeback from a three-run deficit.

The loss was Milwaukee's first since Sept. 22 and ended a 12-game winning streak consisting of the last eight games of the regular season, including a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central Division tiebreaker, a sweep of the Colorado Rockies to win an NL Division Series and Game 1 of the NLCS.

The game comes on the 30th anniversary of Kirk Gibson's two-out, two- run pinch-hit homer in the bottom of the ninth that gave the Dodgers a 4-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. The Dodgers went on to win the series in five games, their most recent World Series championship.
