Doctor In India Pulls 6-Inch-Long Parasitic Worm From Mans Eye

A doctor in India captured this video of an almost 6 inch-long worm being removed from a man's eye...

The patient went to the New Medical Center in Kundapur, Karnataka, India, because he said he had constant eye pain. That's when Dr. Srikanth Shetty examined his eye and found a ringworm in his eyeball.

“The challenge was to pull out the worm alive, as killing it inside the eye would have created complications," Dr. Shetty said. "It was also difficult to pin it down as it was moving around."

The worm is a parasitic ringworm known as a Wuchereria Bancrofti, and these worms are known to cause lymphatic filariasis.

"The patient has worms in his blood also and has been put on medication," Shetty added. "Extraction of a 15-centimeter long worm from the eye is a first here."
