Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Train in Anaheim

ANAHEIM (CNS) - A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train between the Anaheim and Fullerton stations today.

The fatality occurred about 11:30 a.m., and State College Boulevard was closed in both directions between Katella and Howell avenues. The Amtrak train was stopped in between the stations, so Metrolink trains could not operate in that area until the track was cleared at 2:55 p.m., according to Scott Johnson of Metrolink, which bused commuters around the idle train. The Pacific Surfliner train, with 103 passengers aboard, was on its way from Los Angeles to San Diego, said Amtrak spokeswoman Olivia Irvin. None of the passengers or crew members were injured, she said.

Anaheim police were called to the scene at 11:45 a.m., said Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt. It was not immediately clear if the as-yet unidentified victim was male or female, he said.
