We hear a lot of weird ways politicians try to undercut each other...but sometimes it's just weird.
Case in point:
Ted Cruz is locked in a tight Senate race with Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke, and he might be getting a little desperate.
At a campaign rally on Saturday, Cruz told the crowd "If Texas elects a Democrat, they're going to ban barbecue across the state of Texas" and later tweeted "If Beto wins, BBQ will be illegal!"
Cruz says he was inspired by PETA protesters who attended his event and handed out BBQ tofu.
O'Rourke, meanwhile, is an outspoken fan of Texas-based burger chain Whataburger, so Texas barbecue is probably safe for now.
