Grapevine Fire: Blaze Burns 40 Acres Near 5 Freeway

A vegetation fire that burned around 40 acres broke out Wednesday afternoon near the 5 Freeway in the Grapevine, authorities said. 

The Water Fire, as it has been dubbed, was burning about 3 miles south of Grapevine road, the California Highway Patrol reported. 

No one has been injured and no structures have been damaged according to preliminary reports. The Kern County Fire Department said some structures in Digier Canyon may be threatened. 

The 5 Freeway was open as of 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. 

Authorities didn't say what may have started the brush fire.
