A Major Drug Bust Turned Out to be...Sugar!?

Picture this press conference:

A large folding table is topped with bags of drugs spread out in front of cameras while a police spokesperson announces their latest bust is the biggest one in the state's history. 

But it wasn't quite what it seemed to be....

Let's rewind a bit: 

A North Carolina sheriff's office seized what they believed to be 13 pounds of fentanyl, with a field test even confirming the catch.

But when they got the alleged drugs to the lab, their haul, which could fetch $2 million on the street, melted. 

Yup, like ice cream on a summer's day...just gone.

Turns out the police found "a combination of simple and complex carbohydrates," otherwise known as ordinary table sugar.
