So you need to make a phone call, but you don't have any data and payday is still soooo far away...
What to do?
As long as you have Wi-Fi and a phone (or even a tablet will work), you can make calls for free!
To call anyone in North America:
A LOT of phone apps let you make free phone calls, but they usually require you to jump through a few hoops to do so...
But @Marc_Saltzman found a cool new app called Talkatone, which doesn't make you jump through any of those annoying hoops. (Phew!)
How it works:
After you download the app, it'll send you a verification code (or you can just login with Facebook) to sign up.
You'll then be assigned an incoming phone number... and done!
You can now call any 10-digit phone number as long as you're connected to Wi-Fi, completely free of charge!
To call anyone in the WORLD:
So, while apps like Talkatone are great to make calls within the U.S. and Canada, they don't help much when the call you're trying to make is overseas.
There's many popular options like Skype, Tango, Viber, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and even FaceTime that will let you call anyone in the world for free. However, the only catch is that both people need to be using the same app in order for the call to work.
You can even call from your smart speaker!
Have a smart speaker like an Amazon Echo or Google Home? Making calls with these bad boys is even simpler!
Just talk to your smart speaker and say "call" followed by the phone number.
If your speaker has a smart screen, you can even make free video calls (with the necessary hardware). These are all free calls, even to Mexico.
And we all know technology is constantly changing the way we work and live, but a new generation of hearing aids is taking that technology to the next level. Check out this article about the future of hearing aids on USA Today.
Also, we've all been there. You need Wi-Fi and... it's NOT WORKING?! According to Marc, your Wi-Fi connection sucks, but he has ways that you can fix that. Check out that article on Toronto Storeys.
