Michigan Town Elects "Sweet Tart" The Cat As Mayor

The residents of Omena, Michigan have had enough of politics as usual - that's why they elected a cat as the town's new mayor.

The village of 300 people voted a cat named 'Sweet Tart McKee' as its new mayor, and a dog named 'Diablo Shapiro' as vice mayor.

A goat, a chicken, and another dog were also elected to various positions.  The election was organized by the Omena Historical Society as a fundraiser, charging $1 to cast a vote.

The election raised more than $7,000, which may call for a special investigation into outside votes being cast.

Sweet Tart will serve a 3-year term as mayor and is expected to make public appearances.
