LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Singer/actress Demi Lovato was reported to be stable today after being hospitalized for a medical emergency reported by some media outlets to have been a possible heroin overdose.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed only that officers responded around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday to a home in the 8000 block of Laurel View Drive in Hollywood for a medical emergency.
The department declined to provide further details.
Late Tuesday afternoon, a representative for Lovato issued a statement that read, ``Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing for us now.”
TMZ.com and US Weekly reported the 25-year-old singer, who has a history of substance-abuse issues, was suffering from a possible heroin overdose. TMZ reported that paramedics found the singer unconscious and that she was treated with Narcan, which is typically used for drug overdoses.
Lovato's overdose came at the end of a party at her home that lasted all night, but when EMTs and police arrived to help her, the partygoers were nowhere in sight, law enforcement sources told TMZ. It's unclear when the party broke up, or if people scattered once it became apparent Demi was in trouble.
The former Disney Channel actress' struggles with addiction, bipolar disorder and other issues were recounted last year in a YouTube documentary titled ``Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated.” Although she had recently marked six years of sobriety, she released a song last month titled ``Sober,” in which she revealed that she had relapsed.
The lyrics of the song include the lines: ``To the ones who never left me; we've been down this road before; I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore.”
A host of celebrities posted messages on Twitter in support of Lovato, including Ellen DeGeneres, Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainor, Brad Paisley and Emmy Rossum.
"My friend (Lovato) is one of the kindest, most talented people I've ever met,” Paisley wrote. ``Praying for her right now, addiction is a terrifying disease. There is no one more honest or brave than this woman.”
Lovato was scheduled to perform a concert on the beach in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Thursday, but that performance has been canceled.
