Toronto police say multiple people, including a young girl, have been shot outside a restaurant in a busy Toronto neighborhood around 10 p.m. Sunday. First responders converged on the scene in the area of Danforth and Logan, located in the city's east end. At least nine people were taken to various hospitals in the area where their conditions are currently unknown.
The shooter is dead, police say, and no longer poses a threat.
The area, known for its many restaurants, cafes and shops, was busy when the shooting occurred Sunday night.
A witness told CTV that he heard at least 20 shots and the sound of a weapon being reloaded. He told the station that the scene there was "pretty crazy."
Witnesses recorded video of the gunfire, posting it to Twitter.
Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario, tweeted about the shooting Sunday night saying that his heart went out to the victims and loved ones hurt in the incident.
"My heart goes out to the victims and loved ones of the horrific act of gun violence in Toronto. Thank you to all the first responders for acting quickly to help everyone affected."
