The fire, known as the Holiday Fire, was reported around 9 p.m. near Holiday Hill Road. Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department said the fire started at a home, then spread to brush nearby. The fire quickly spread, threatening homes on Fairview Avenue.
It's unclear how many acres had burned so far or the amount of people who had been affected by evacuations. Authorities said strong sundowner winds and hot conditions helped fuel the the fire.
