Brush Fire Scorches Several Acres Near Griffith Observatory

posted by City News Service -

HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - A brush fire near the Griffith Observatory burned 3- 4 acres in rugged, remote terrain in the Hollywood Hills tonight.

The fire was first reported at 7:45 p.m. and a knockdown was declared about 10:10 p.m., according to Margaret Stewart with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire posed challenges to the 95 firefighters on scene in maneuvering equipment, acquiring water supplies and climbing hills to put hand lines in place, Stewart said.

Helicopters made water drops as ground crews moved in to help douse the blaze.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.

Mop up operations will continue throughout the night, Stewart said.
