Cache of Illegal Fireworks Seized from Riverside Home

RIVERSIDE (CNS) - A Riverside man was arrested for selling illegal fireworks during an undercover police operation in Ontario, and was later found to have stockpiled hundreds of pounds of dangerous pyrotechnics in his home, a police sergeant said today.

The arrested came on Thursday, when police answered an ad on a social media website, said Ontario police Sgt. Bill Russell. A man later identified as Ernesto Jimenez, 23, sold illegal fireworks to an undercover officer, police said.

The explosives were ``mortars'' -- aerial fireworks which are banned everywhere in California without a permit.

Police got a search warrant for Jimenez's home in the 10000 block of Zinfandel, and found an additional 250 pounds of illegal fireworks, including mortars, Russell said.

Jimenez was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
