Sheriff Fires Deputy Who Beat Him In Primary

Bon Homme County Sheriff Lenny Gramkow was not happy after he lost the Republican primary to one of his own deputies, so he relieved the officer of his duties just one minute after the polls closed. Mark Maggs was handed his termination letter and shared it on Facebook

"Mark Maggs: This letter is to inform you that effective immediately you are terminated from the position of deputy sheriff for Bon Homme County. As of this moment you are no longer an employee of Bon Homme county. Please turn in all equipment belonging to Bon Homme County by 5 p.m. on June 6, 2018. Signed Lenny Gramkow, Bon Homme County Sheriff."

The post was shared hundreds of times, and Maggs started receiving support and words of encouragement from around the country. Hundreds of people began leaving one-star reviews on Bon Homme County Sheriff's Facebook page, and the sheriff's office was inundated with phone calls in support of Maggs.

Maggs will still assume the role of sheriff in January, but his family will be stuck in limbo until then. Without a job, he will have no income and will lose his health insurance benefits.

The former deputy spoke with the Argus Leader, assuring his supporters that his wife and four kids are "going to be fine" and asking people to "stop calling the sheriff’s office."
