LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is set to be a panelist in a discussion on infrastructure today as the four-day 86th Annual Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors begins in Boston.
This session titled ``Infrastructure Innovation -- Public Private Partnerships'' will examine how implementing public-private partnerships ``can help deliver big, ambitious, complex infrastructure at an accelerated pace,'' according to organizers.
Garcetti is chair of the conference's Infrastructure Task Force. Other panelists are Emmitt Smith, the NFL's career rushing leader and now chairman of E Smith Advisors, a Dallas-based real estate services provider, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and Joe Aiello, the chair of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's Fiscal and Management Control Board.
The discussion will be moderated by Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.
More than 250 mayors of cities with populations of 30,000 or more are set to attend the meeting, which will also include sessions on immigration, cybersecurity, school safety, jobs and the economic future of cities.
Other speakers at the meeting at the Marriott Copley Place include Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D- Massachusetts, and David Hogg, one of the 20 survivors of the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, who founded Never Again MSD, a student-led gun control group.
Other Los Angeles and Orange county mayors who have registered for the meeting are Jeffrey Koji Maloney (Alhambra), Tom Tait (Anaheim), Dr. Julian A. Gold (Beverly Hills), Fred Gaines (Calabasas), Thomas Aujero Small (Culver City), Donald P. Wagner (Irvine), Elaine Gennawey (Laguna Niguel), Robert Garcia (Long Beach), Stephan Lam (Monterey Park), Miguel A. Pulido (Santa Ana), Ted Winterer (Santa Monica) and Patrick J. Furey (Torrance).
