Reese Witherspoon In Talks to Reprise Elle Woods in Legally Blonde 3!

Reese Witherspoon is in talks to reprise one of her most beloved characters: Elle Woods. According to Deadline, MGM is close to finalizing the deal to bring back our favorite lawyer for Legally Blonde 3.

Along with Witherspoon, a majority of the creative team is also returning.

Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah are reportedly in final talks to return as the screenwriters, while original producer Marc Platt is teaming up with Adam Siegel and Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine production company. A director has yet to be secured.

The film will reportedly be centered around female empowerment.

The original 2001 flick followed Witherspoon as Elle Woods, a blonde, pink-loving sorority sister who tried to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner Huntington III (played by Matthew Davis) by enrolling at Harvard Law School only to become a lady boss herself. It also starred Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Victor Garber and Jennifer Coolidge.

The Oscar-winning actress returned for the 2003 sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, alongside Sally Field and Regina King.

Legally Blonde has also since been adapted into a stage musical. It premiered in San Francisco in 2007 before moving to Broadway in New York City, where it earned seven Tony nominations.
